Fishing Vessel Solstice

In September 2017 the fishing vessel Solstice capsized with the tragic lost of one life. After a search from Life boats and Royal Navy two further crew were rescued safe and well clinging to the upturned hull! The vessel later sunk whilst was taken under tow back to Plymouth in 30 metres of water .

The MAIB ( Marine accident investigation Branch ) Contracted Apex Diving & Marine to locate the wreck and carry out a detailed video survey .

Apex mobilised its own vessel Skindeeper moored in Portland with the necessary diving equipment and steamed her to Plymouth ready to collect MAIB investigators and dive team the next morning .

The wreck was located and Skindeeper was able to lay her own mooring spread over the top for the divers to reach the vessel.

The divers then carried numerous tasks requested by the investigators included full video survey and still photos .

This helped the MAIB to complete its investigation into why the vessel capsized .
